Here are the current projects under development:

  • On November 2nd 2006 the NWAFFC was aproved for a grant from the Puyallup Indian Nation to begin work on a new program providing specific funds to Natitive American youth in care.
  • In September the NWAFFC was awarded a donation from the Detlef Schrempf Foundation from their Celebrity Golf Tournament. Thank you to Detlef and the foundation for believing in our mission to help local children in foster care.
  • The 2006 back-to-school backpack drive was a huge success. Thanks to the Lakewood Windermere and the community we were able to donate close to 200 backpacks with supplies to Pierce County children. A special backpack, Owen's "Dream Backpack", went to a 6th grade boy named Austin from Catholic Community Services. The contents included gift cards to Old Navy, Payless Shoes, Best Buy, and a new Nintendo DS with game.
  • Owen and the Greater Seattle Alumni Network (GSAN) are working together to change law requiring foster care dependency records be sealed after a child leaves the system. We feel it's very important to give young adult alumnus the opportunity to begin adult life without the worries of their records being used against them for any reason. To learn more about our efforts please email us.
  • Raise awareness regarding the difficult issues abused and neglected children face when being taken from their biological family.
  • Through the NWAFFC Owen has become an accredited mentor with DSHS for children in foster care. Owen talks with high-risk youth who have faced abuse, neglect and worst of all, being abandoned. This gives kids the opportunity to talk with someone face-to-face that can relate to their current situation.
  • We will continue speaking with local companies in the community about the need for corporate sponsorship to fund the programs NWAFFC offers.
  • Continue to send out information to Washington State social workers and foster agencies to inform them about the services offered by the NWAFFC.
  • We are looking for past and present youth in foster care interested in submitting a short story about your life in foster care whether it is a success story or how you were affected. The submissions will be accessible on the NWAFFC website to educate and bring attentiveness to others about foster youth.
  • Our donation boxes are in. If you are a business that would allow us to have one of our donation change boxes at your store front or even in a break room, let us know.
  • Owen Bunstine Sr., the founder of NWAFFC is currently in the process of writing a book about his life as an abused child as well as his time entering foster care. Because the NWAFFC made the decision to publish this book Owen will donate ALL (100%) of the proceeds this book generates to the NW Alliance For Foster Children to help bring joy to children living in foster care. New Programs in Development
  • We are in the developmental stages on a new program to offer foster youth in high school funds to purchase items such as year books, class rings, and commencement supplies for graduating seniors. The goal of this program will be to ease the pressure off seniors due to the high expense of graduation and put their focus back on studies and the joy of completing an important chapter in every senior's life.
