Welcome to the Northwest Alliance For Foster Children
Serving children in foster care throughout Pierce County since 2004

Children who wind up in foster homes almost never do so by choice, but because they have suffered some kind of abandonment. Some are left alone at the death of their birth parents, with no other relatives willing or able to take them in. Other children are deliberately abandoned, some after suffering years of abuse and different forms of neglect before they are neglected permanently, left at home to wait for a parent who never returns. In nearly each case, the child feels unwanted by everyone—untrusting, unloved, and unworthy.

Children entering foster care must leave behind everything that made their lives normal: siblings, pets, and the bed they slept in, the family home, and the security of having known where they belonged. Their possessions sometimes amount to what they can carry in a garbage bag. After a while they have a hard time recalling how many homes they've lived in or what it's like to celebrate a birthday with someone who cares.

We believe in the fundamental right of every foster child to have the necessary resources for a happy and healthy childhood. Because of the limited funds allocated by the state most foster kids don't have the means to purchase yearbooks, class rings, or a cap and gown for graduation—some of the little things most kids take for granted. The NW Alliance For Foster Children strives to improve the lives of foster youth by providing them with a sense of normalcy helping them to fit in with other kids and leading to a better quality of life. We invite you to join us in making a difference for foster kids today.
